We are a 'user' group for the genomic information coming out of the tomato genome sequencing project.
The current aims of UK-Sol are to:
- Facilitate sequencing of the tomato genome
- {rovide a focus for a UK research community that will exploit the tomato sequence.
We seek to bring together interested parties working in Universities and other academic
Institutions and Industry so that they can share expertise and information for common benefit.

The Tomato chromsome 4 project
The international tomato genome project is a collaboration of 10 countries working to sequence the euchromatin portions of the 12 tomato chromosomes.
The UK is responsible for sequencing chromosome 4. This project is an active collaboration between
Imperial College, the
MIPS Plants database project and
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. The project is coordinated internationally by the
Sol Genomics Network (SGN).
Current progress and access to the data can be found via the
tomato genome poject section of the SGN portal.
EU-Sol
The aim of
EU-Sol is to develop high quality tomato and potato varieties with improved traits important for consumers, processors and producers.
The UK contribution is primarily centred around the annotation and sequencing of the emerging tomato genome.
International Tomato Annotation Group
The International Tomato Annotation Group (iTAG) is an adjunct project to the tomato sequence project which seeks to provide a single homogenous high quality annotation for the whole tomato genome. This is a multinational collaboration between
SGN, tomato sequencing groups and members of
EU-Sol.
These data are made available to the public via both
SGN or the
MIPS plant database.
