Research

The UK tomato genome project is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council (BBSRC) , Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs (DEFRA) and the Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department.

The aim is to sequence the gene-rich regions of chromosome 4.

The project is being spearheaded on behalf of the Solanaceae Research Community in the UK by Gerard Bishop and Sarah Butcher (Imperial College London), Graham Seymour (University of Nottingham), Glenn Bryan (Scottish Crop Research Institue) and Jane Rogers at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Centre .
